Waco Spotlight: Texas Food Truck Showdown

During the spring and summer months Waco hosts a series of free family-friendly events at Indian Springs Park near the Suspension Bridge. The first event of 2016, Brazos Nights, starts tonight at 7 p.m. The live band performance begins at 7:30 p.m. but come early to enjoy food trucks and treats from local vendors. You can find me in line at Pokey O's, creator of the best ice cream sandwiches you've ever had.

On Saturday morning, take a stroll down to the Waco Farmer’s Market and then head over to the second annual Texas Food Truck Showdown, which begins at 10 a.m. outside the Greater Waco Chamber building (101 S. Third St). Over 40 food trucks and vendors will be competing for awards and selling treats and bites, including a beer and wine garden. For more information, visit the website or Facebook page.

The trucks will be open all day with a short break between 4 and 5 p.m. before reopening for the concert and movie showing near downtown. I don’t know about you, but that sure sounds like an ideal way to spend my Saturday!

If you’re looking for a recommendation, I’d suggest visiting the Over the Plate gourmet food truck from Harker Heights – their fish tacos are delish. Or if you’re into Asian food, check out Spin Sushi or Say Kimchi – also excellent choices.
