MM: Take a break! 09/14/15 | Doug Cofer Our world today is so fast paced. Everyone's life is go-go-go all the time. Being busy seems like the norm with so much that needs to be done every single day. And it's not just work that's doing this to us -- it's our home lives too. Kid activities, school, trying to work out to be healthy, projects around the house ... it's constant. It feels like you have to be going 100 mph all the time just to keep up. Right about now, most of you reading this are nodding your heads and muttering something along the lines of "ain't that the truth", or maybe something more colorful. My life is no different. Between building 4C and executing for our clients, a house full of kids, Christine teaching 4th grade, family, friends, activities, church and Baylor sports we are always running it seems. If you're striving to realize your dreams, build your company or achieve the goals you have set for yourself, then you know how much time and effort that takes. And, often people get crushed under the tidal wave of everything going in their life when trying to shoot for the stars. My advice? Sometimes you gotta just take a break. You heard me right. Take a break. Look, here's the reality -- chase your dream, build, envision the future, make a plan to get there and work hard to get there. That's fantastic! We've talked about that many times before and I encourage you to go get it. The flip side is that it will always be there. Work isn't going anywhere. Neither are your dreams. Life is bigger than you're dream. The people in your life and the love you give them are and will always be the most important thing you can even be successful at. See the photo at the top of this post? That's me on the left with my wife and our five kids. We rafted the Arkansas River through Browns Canyon back in July. It was amazing. The water was freezing and it even rained on us. But, you can tell by the looks on our faces we had the time of our lives. So much so, that our kids can't wait to go down another river in the mountains with bigger rapids. So, take a break. Go spend time with the important people in your life doing fun things. You'll find that time will not only create special memories, but will also give you perspective and a renewed commitment to your vision. You will remember why you're working so hard to reach your dream. Your battery will be recharged and you'll be ready to do your best work. Plus you will be happier and so will your family. Trust me ... TAKE A BREAK!
