Finding Mid-Week Motivation

11/03/15

|

Doug Cofer

Congratulations! You made it through another Monday. But now what? Friday still seems light years away, and the motivation you had at the beginning of the week (#mondaymotivation) may have begun to dwindle. Wednesdays might just be the most dreaded of all workdays, since you’re as far away from the next weekend as you are from the last one. Here are a few tips on staying motivated, productive and energized through the hump day slump.

 Be ready for the day

Go to bed early on Tuesday night so you’re not falling asleep at your desk all day on Wednesday, and eat a good breakfast on Wednesday morning to start your day off on the right foot. Just being ready for the day can set the tone for a great and productive hump day!

Plan something fun to look forward to

This weekend, take a road trip with friends, go to your favorite Tex Mex restaurant, or visit a friend you haven’t seen in awhile. Having something fun to look forward to during the week will keep you motivated to work until you reach your goal.

Set small goals or milestones to maintain your productivity

Set deadlines for yourself to ensure you get your tasks completed throughout the day. Limit distractions by putting your phone away and put all your focus on getting the work done.

Find some inspiration to keep you going

Write down a motivational quote, read an inspiring story – find something that encourages you to continue working hard! You can also light a candle, doodle in a notebook, or even simply keep a plant at your desk. Studies have shown that keeping a plant on your desk can increase focus, efficiency and productivity.

Plan to relax after work

Make time after work to just unwind. Give your mind and body time to rejuvenate before finishing the rest of the workweek.

Grab an afternoon pick-me-up

Reward yourself Wednesday afternoon with a favorite snack or a cup of your favorite coffee drink. Something small but enjoyable will give you something to work towards, and might just give you that burst of energy you need to finish a project!

The keys to conquering Wednesdays are just finding a little extra motivation to encourage yourself to keep going, and remembering that Friday is just a few short days away. Having things to look forward to after work or over the weekend will keep you looking ahead.
