Top Qualities of a PR Pro

03/16/15

|

Want to be a public relations professional? Take a peek at the following traits to see if you've got what it takes.

1. Persuasive. Experts in PR are able to tell a story in a way that grabs attention from important people and makes them want to share it with others. Simply relaying the facts won't cut it- even simple stories need to come off as intriguing.

2. Ready for anything. A PR pro always needs to be equipped and prepared to record information or contact someone at a minute's notice.

3. Takes initiative without direction. A true PR pro is investigative, up to date on news and eager to be ahead of the game without being told to do so.

4. Strong writer. This one is pretty self-explanatory. If you're going to succeed in PR, you must be able to communicate effectively through writing. Be clear and concise, but don't forget to keep your stories interesting while doing so.

5. Always eager to learn. Even the best of the best in PR are still learning new things each day. PR is an ever-changing industry, and one can never know everything there is to know about connecting with others. Make it a point to learn something, even something small, every day.

6. Connection-maker. PR pros are confident, outgoing people who are always eager to make new connections that could expand the reach of their work.

7. Organized & timely. Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines. Any great PR pro knows that timing is everything, and having great organizational skills is key to success.

u. Detail oriented. Mistakes in writing indicate carelessness. Of course no one is perfect 24/7, but PR pros should be used to triple-checking their work for errors before putting it out there.

9. Adventurous and ambitious. Be a risk taker and think outside of the box. Risks can lead to PR greatness as long as execution and potential consequences are well thought out. Confidence is key.

There are many more qualities that make a person fit to succeed in public relations- what would you add to this list?
