31-Point Website Performance Boost for an IoT Connectivity Provider

Four Columns helped Solve Networks’ GTmetrix scores jump from a C to an A — without changing a word of content or a single design element.

The Need

As an MVNO, Solve Networks gives industrial and enterprise clients access to multi-carrier networks, flexible data solutions, and the kind of hands-on expertise that larger carriers don’t offer. When they came to Four Columns in 2025, the goal was to position them as an expert in the field and a trusted resource for connectivity — something their company was, but their website wasn’t reflecting. 

Initially, Four Columns worked to update the Solve Networks site’s content and imagery to better reflect its positioning. These changes improved the external messaging, but the website was still carrying technical liabilities that weren’t visible to the naked eye. The framework it was built on was underperforming — the site was slow to load and lagging in the browser. That’s when the performance issues became a priority to address.

The Work

As a part of the holistic retainer relationship with Solve Networks, Four Columns identified these performance deficiencies and rebuilt the website from the ground up — not because the content or design needed to change, but because the foundation it was sitting on did. The first step was a full evaluation of every page and element on the existing site, cataloging the content, and mapping everything that would need to be recreated on the new build.

From there, the site was rebuilt entirely on the backend using Four Columns’ custom framework: a secure, optimized Genesis child theme. Every piece of content from the original site was preserved and carried over. Nothing changed on the surface. What changed was everything underneath. 

The new site looks identical to the previous one, but it runs on a foundation built to be faster, more secure, and better optimized for how search engines discover and index content. It’s also significantly more user-friendly to manage, making it easier to update and edit copy moving forward.

Before the new site even went live, the results were measurable. Running both versions through GTmetrix under identical conditions (same content, same design, same test server location), Four Columns’ framework delivered a 31-point performance improvement, an 84% reduction in Total Blocking Time, and a GTmetrix grade jump from a C to an A. Additionally, the Largest Contentful Paint dropped from 1.1s to 902ms.

These improvements mean the site is healthier, faster, and more responsive — giving users a better experience from the moment they land on the page. With a stronger technical foundation in place, the new site is set up to perform from day one.

Post-launch, that stronger foundation is already showing up in how Google evaluates the site. In Google Search Console, none of Solve Networks’ critical pages consistently passed Core Web Vitals before the rebuild. Since launch, every one of them does. It’s still early, and the kind of long-run gains a healthier technical foundation can produce — organic visibility, crawl efficiency, ranking stability — tend to compound over months, not days. But the leading indicator search engines use to judge page experience has already moved from inconsistent to fully passing, which is exactly what a framework built for search visibility is supposed to do.
