Goal Setting: Fuel For Dreams 12/29/15 | Tristen Coffee Reach higher. Go further. In our achievement-driven culture, there seems to be an abundance of to-dos but very little checking of boxes for things that actually matter to us– that is unless we make time to set goals. As the year comes to a close and we countdown to the next, soon we will be exchanging New Year’s resolutions. But how much thought will you put into yours? You’ve probably heard it before and you will probably hear it again, but today we are reminding you of the importance of goal-setting and how it can turn your everyday routine into steps towards what actually matters. Goals give your dreams fuel. As cheesy as it sounds, sitting down and thinking about where you want to go and why is a powerful thing. It will propel your life, business or even a project in a thoughtful and worthwhile direction. Goals aren’t just for those lofty, big-picture ideas you have for your life. In their most effective state, goals serve as stepping stones to an umbrella desire. That means goal-setting is important even for your everyday tasks– with a goal in place, your everyday might just get a sense of clarity. Yet, there is an important distinction to make between goals and to-do lists. Goals should be seen as an external reminder of your inner desires. This leaves no room for fluff– others opinions, the status quo, self-doubt– throw it all away because your goals get to the heart of the purpose you are working for. To-dos are a “practical-evil” that all too often get mistaken for “goals”. While they can be tremendously helpful for staying on task, to-do lists can get us lost in the logistical fog. Goals give us the light to cut through it. So as the countdown dwindles what goals will you set? Will you think about your own personal development and add a new skill to your tool belt? Create new habits, like establishing a good morning routine? Breathe new life into a project that needs a little push? Or maybe you’ll work towards living a little healthier and add a workout routine to your schedule. Whatever the desire is, make sure you set a few goals along the way to cut through the fog that comes with the business and stress of life. When you do reach them, celebrate– and call us up if you want to have a dance party.
