MM: You’re Going To Fail 04/04/16 | I think one of the biggest obstacles people face when it comes to realizing their dreams is that they are afraid to fail. Our culture has produced an ever increasing emotional predisposition to avoid failing at all costs. Failing at anything has been made equivalent to being a failure. Many people have come to view failing as “the end”. The truth is that is completely the opposite of what it really is. Failing is not an end at all. Let me let you in on another reality of life. You are going to fail - sometime. Maybe even sometimes … or many times. And, not only is that ok … it’s a good, great, normal and expected thing. You see, no one succeeds every time at everything. No one. Ever. (Except Jesus, but that’s an entirely different topic) Even if you take failure in the worst possible way, it still isn’t “the end”. Even if you dwell on it, can’t move past it — it’s still not the end. No matter what, failure is just the beginning of learning what not to do in the future. If you fail, it starts a new chapter in your career or life where you can strive to do things better or different than you did in the past. The key is to realize that failure allows you to learn and improve. All of the most successful people in the world failed before rising to unseen heights. People like Michael Jordan, Walt Disney, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Albert Einstein and many others throughout history experienced failure. They didn’t stop - they came back, worked harder, improved and made their dreams reality. You can too. Step 1 is accepting you will fail—sometime—and that’s ok. Step 2 is learning from it and step 3 is to keep moving forward. That’s what will make you successful.
