MM: Standing at the foot of a mountain

Last week I returned to the office after 10 days in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I love the mountains. Put aside that the mountains are much better scenery and offer endless outdoor activities. Even put aside the fact that it's 1 billion degrees in Texas in July and it's 75 degrees or cooler in Colorado. (You can't beat the weather in the mountains in the summer - it's just amazing)

I find going to the mountains is great for getting centered. I can't help but become humble in the presence of something as big as a mountain. It's impossible to not find peace when you stop and be still in the mountains. It's the sheer size of the rocks, the whisper of the wind through the trees and the perpetual running of snow melted water in the streams.

In all these things, the magnitude of size and time is beyond understanding.

How can you feel like the center of anything, much less the universe or your own life, when looking at a 2,000 foot sheer cliff of stone? How can whatever you're dealing with seem important when you realize that water has been running over the same rocks for thousands of years?

We all need perspective, in good times, bad times and everyday moments. Whether you go to the mountains, look at someone you care about or just take a few minutes to close your eyes and clear your mind - don't go through life without proper perspective. It makes all the difference between being successful and missing the mark.
