MM: Do you have the self belief of Jordan Spieth? 06/22/15 | Doug Cofer You may have heard of a 21 year-old guy named Jordan Spieth. For those not familiar with the name, he is a professional golfer from Dallas, Texas. Yesterday he finished winning the US Open Golf Championship, the second major tournament of the year - both of which Spieth has won. You could say Jordan Spieth is on a roll. In the past six months or so, he's won 4 tournaments and finished in the top 10 another 7 times pushing him to the #1 ranked golfer in the world. If you listen to the announcers on television, they'll go on and on about how Spieth can do it all. He's a great with the driver, pure swing, clutch putter and precise short game. You'll also hear them talk about his mental toughness and poise, especially at so young an age. At one point during yesterday's final round he was even called an "old soul". Every cliche in the book is used to describe this young man's game and run of success. However, I saw something yesterday on TV that didn't get mentioned. Jordan Spieth believes in himself and believes he should be successful. His self belief is not only strong, but he believes it to the highest level of achievement. Not that he can win the biggest golf tournaments in the world, but that he should win them. Fox Sports aired part of an interview with Spieth during the final round where they asked him how special it would be to win the US Open on Father's Day with his father in attendance. Spieth replied by saying "I can imagine it because it just happened in the last major. I was able to embrace my parents right there off the 18th green. To win on golf's toughest stage with him there on Father's Day would be really special. And I can visualize it for sure, just looking back on April." Self belief coupled with positive thinking is a powerful thing. Spieth and his caddie both use the phrase "paint a good picture" and one of them says it before almost every shot while on the course. When you believe in yourself, your ability, your service, your company and couple it with positive visualization in the moment - it's really hard not to succeed.
