5 Simple Ways to De-clutter Your Workspace

11/10/15

|

Too often we get stressed by the amount of tasks we have to complete on our to-do list. Clutter that you may not even notice could be hindering your focus and lead to distraction and lower productivity at work. So how do you stop this cycle? Here are five simple steps for you to take action against the clutter!

Clean up your computer desktop

It’s probably time to get rid of those documents and folders that are more than a few years old. Try getting rid of as many icons on your desktop as possible. You could always invest in an external hard drive if that trash bin seems too daunting.

Clear out your “junk” drawer

Every one has a junk drawer. Every pen, highlighter and paperclip gets thrown into it, never to be seen again. You get anxiety by just looking at it. Throw away any pens that don’t work and receipts that you will never look at again. Every pen, pencil and sticky note should have its place.

Clear out your inbox

A full inbox can lead to unnecessary stress. Set aside some time to go through your inbox and delete any emails that you no longer need. This is also a good time to unsubscribe to that department store newsletter that sends you three emails a day.

Don’t let papers pile up

Everyone has that one spot on their desk that acts as an impromptu file cabinet. Documents and memos pile up on the corner of your desk until it completely takes over. File papers as soon as you get them or throw them away—piles of paper only lead to stress at the start of each day.

Embrace simplicity

A clean desk is a productive desk. Take everything off of your desk, clean it and only put the necessary things back on. File away papers, throw away junk and keep it simple. A visually appealing and simple workspace can help you focus on your task at hand.

What tips and tricks do you use to de-clutter your work space?
